Brushing and flossing properly everyday prevents gum disease which leads to bleeding gums. If your gums are bleeding, then they should be checked by your dentist.

It could be a sign of an infection that can lead to gum disease. Gum disease weakens the bone supporting the teeth and then lead to tooth loss. Early signs of gums disease may not be painful. If caught early, it can be treated.
