Bruxism (Grinding Teeth):

Bruxism (teeth grinding) can affect people of all ages. It usually occurs during sleep from malocclusion or stress. Stress can also be a factor for daytime bruxism.

Children frequently grind their teeth when new teeth are erupting. Mild cases are not a problem, but if it gets worse, then they should be examined by the dentist.

Bruxism causes:

  • Worn spots (attrition) that can lead to, malocclusion, tooth sensitivity, and brittle teeth.

  • Pain and problems in the TMJ (joint of the jaw)

  • Grinding Noises during sleep.

Treatment of Bruxism

The above mentioned problems caused by buxism should first be addressed with the dentists. Then a nightguard can be made and should be worn to prevent further damage.
